Courtney Watson LB Notre Dame

Courtney is a good linebacker with all the skills necessary to play more than one position in the NFL. He has good change of direction skills and good size and speed to handle the point of attack. Courtney has the ability to stay with most TEs in the passing game. He shows leadership qualities and will be a good teammate.

Need to Improve

Courtney does play out of control and gets away with a lot of arm talking in the college ranks. This will not do in the NFL. He must learn: head up, wrap up, squeeze and drive. He knows all this, but he just got into some bad habits.

Bottom Line

Courtney is another one of those quality players that has had their draft status affected by the fact that he is involved with a college program that is struggling right now. A good player and team leader that tries to do too much and falls into some bad habits. Courtney came into the combine at 61 238lbs and ran a 4.50 and a 4.55 in the forty with good response in all his positional skills. This is a very smart, instinctive linebacker that will be a core player for the team that drafts him. A good second day pick that could sneak into the first day.
