Daryl Smith   LB   Georgia Tech

Daryl is a smart, technically sound linebacker. He has good size and speed for his position and is a good tackler. Daryl uses his hands well and keeps players off his legs. He doesn’t get caught up in the wash on sweeps. He is patient and relentless. He has the ability to make his teammates better. He is a good teammate and has leadership qualities.

Daryl is a little stiff in the hips so his ability to cover one on one is limited, but not enough to get your bowels in an uproar. He will learn and need to take better drops in coverage.

Daryl might be a bit underrated by some teams in this draft. I feel he can play more than just one LB position in the pros. Some teams, I guess, are looking for perfection in their picks and will downgrade Daryl, but I think he is a first day pick. Daryl is a stay-and-play-your-position-correctly LB. These types of LB's tend to get overlooked and sometimes drop to the fourth round. Daryl knows when to get into the backfield and make a tackle and does it within the context of the defensive game plan. He takes good angles and wraps up very well. Yes, yes, he will need to get stronger blah, blah, blah. Daryl will do what he needs to do to get on the field and become a core player for his team.
