|by Drew Boylhart SR Staff Writer February 2005||Lydell Ross RB Ohio St|
Lydell has excellent RB skills and techniques. He is a smart, tough runner that uses good techniques to turn the corner and set up his blocks. He has good strength in his legs and really good pad level to get the tough yards. He really knows how to follow his blocks and does a good job catching the ball out of the backfield. Lydellís style of running translates very well to the next level.
Needs to Improve
Lydell is not the fastest RB and not the quickest RB that Iíve ever seen, but he is right up there with the smartest.
Talent Board Round 6 Lydell is going to be downgraded because he isnít that fast or quick; however, his vision and natural ability to set up blocks and be tough in the hole is going to surprise the team that drafts him. He is not flashy, but he more than gets the job done. I think when he gets to the pros with a good line, it will be hard to keep him off the field. This kid will be taken in the later rounds on the 2nd day and could be a hell of a find for the team that drafts him. Lydell looks to be a quiet kid and not much of a self-promoter, but I think in the years to come his play on the field will be what promotes him the best.
