Sam Mayes   OG   Oklahoma St
Sam is a smart, powerful, talented offensive lineman. He has leadership qualities and makes the players around him better. He is excellent in run blocking and does a good job pass blocking. Sam has excellent mental toughness and when you need three yards for a first down, he demands through his play that you go behind him to get it. He can be used in a pull/trap system and he has very good potential to play at the next level.
Needs to Improve
Sam has to lose some weight. It does not stop him from being a good player, but twenty pounds less and this kid is a first day pick.
Talent Board Round  3
Sam played LG this year and let me tell you, you can draft him and plug him right into that spot in the NFL also. He is a solid pass blocker and an excellent run blocker. He picks up stunts very well, understands the purpose of the blocking schemes and gives equal effort on every play. Sam is very comfortable with his size -- in fact, he carries himself like a Sumo wrestler walking into the circle. You know those guys with the wedgie straps that have phenomenal athletic talent and strength in a body so large you wonder how they function in the bathroom? I would like to see him lose some weight, but to be honest with you, he handles it very well and I think as a coach, you are just going to have to live with it. Sumo Sam Mayes…I like it!
