Vernand is a very talented RB. In fact, it will be hard to keep him out of the first round. He has excellent vision and lateral movement in the hole and has excellent speed and quickness to the line. He has good hands out of the backfield and very good balance. He is an impact back and has the potential to be a franchise back at the next level.
Needs to Improve
Vernand needs to bulk up a little bit and learn how to pick up the blitz so that he can stay on the field for all three downs. This is normal for a back and Vernand should do this without much trouble.
Talent Board Round 1
This kid has as much talent as Cadillac Williams of Auburn, who is considered a possible top ten player in this draft. That is why I say it will be hard to keep this kid out of the first round. If he doesnít make it, then some lucky team in the 2nd gets themselves a potential franchise back. Vernand has had good coaching along with some pretty good natural instincts and understands how to run to limit injuries. He knows when to drop his head and drive through a player and he knows when to take what you can get and go down. This is one of the hardest things to teach a running back and usually it takes some injuries to get it through some of these kidsí heads. I like this kid a lot. I like his style because he is not as straight lined as some of the other backs and when he makes his cuts, he has good power and balance. I think the big problem for Vernand is that he doesnít have a nickname. So Iím going to call him Vernand (The Mortician) Morency because he will bury the defense when you hand him the ball.
