Calvin Lowry   S   Penn St

Calvin is a smart ball-hawking safety.  He has good size, is quick and shows a good burst.  He is a solid tackler and understands situational football.  Calvin is a good punt returner and when he intercepts a pass, he likes to take off and return it as far as he can.  He is a playmaker that can play more than one position and would do very well in a two deep zone system.  Calvin is a sleeper in this draft; he can start and play right away for the team that drafts him in a nickel-dime defense and as a punt returner.

Needs to Improve

Calvin has been playing the strong safety position for his college team and believe me, that is not the position for him at the next level.  Calvin is a pure free safety.

I saw Calvin all season long and he never impressed me as anything but a solid player for the next level.  Then, I saw him when someone got the smart idea to play him at free safety in the Senior Bowl.  It was like a light switch went on for this kid.  If he keeps the play in front of him, he is an excellent safety.  He has really good hands and instincts to intercept the ball to go with solid cover skills to help out the corner.  Calvin is a smart kid and zone coverage comes easy to him.  He is an excellent punt returner and when he intercepts the ball, he wants to return it all the way.  This kid is a sleeper and someone who uses a two deep zone system is going to get themselves a hell of a ball-hawking free safety and punt returner on the second day of the draft.
