Lawrence Jackson   DE   USC

Lawrence has an excellent burst off the line of scrimmage and is great at rushing the passer - when he feels like it.  He shows good strength and quickness and can rush with his hand down or standing up.  His pass rushing talents are equal to some of the best pass rushers in this draft.  Lawrence's anticipation off the snap of the ball could make him a valuable situational pass rusher for the team that drafts him.

Lawrence has a lot more talent to be more than just a pass rushing DE.  If he wanted to be a OLB in a 3-4 defense, he could do it easily.  He has the athletic talent; however, for some reason, he is not interested.  He only wants to rush the passer so I suggest you draft him with the thought that there is no way in hell he is going to be anything but a situational pass rusher.  If you think you are going to make him into something that he doesn't want to be, you are just going to drive yourself crazy.

Lawrence is a tweener with the talent to be a solid OLB in a 3-4 defense, but he just doesn't want it.  On film, he just wants to rush the passer.  He is lousy against the run because he just doesn't care and he doesn't like to get blocked head on.  When you run the ball at Lawrence, he just doesn't get washed out -- he gets washed, rinsed, blow dried and folded like a basket of laundry your maid service did for you.   There is nothing in this kid's play on the field that makes me think that Lawrence will see the light and become an all around DE/OLB for the team that drafts him.  Nothing! Nada! Zilch!  But, he is a hell of a pass rusher and if he can be a good special teams player, then he's worth drafting.  That's IF he wants to play special teams (Get it?  A big IF)!
