Jeremy has excellent size to play more than one linebacker position. He is smart and a head up, wrap up, squeeze and drive tackler. He shows excellent leadership skills and great instincts. Jeremy makes the players around him better. He is strong against the run and, as long as he keeps the play in front of him, plays smart in pass defense. Jeremy is the type of linebacker that every team needs to be a playoff defense. He will not be the best linebacker on the field, but he will be the most important. He plays football like that junkyard dog chained up to protect the yard, but who waits patiently until you step close enough to the end of his chain to attack you. Jeremy will mentally go up against your franchise QB and offensive coordinator on every play. He will make your QB check out of play after play and disrupt the flow of an opponent's offense. Don't get me wrong; Jeremy has good solid overall athletic talent to play more than one linebacker position in any style of defense, but his real strength is his football intelligence. Jeremy reminds me a lot of Antonio Pierce (former MLB, NY Giants). I believe that Jeremy could be a MLB in a 4-3 or ILB/OLB in a 3-4 defense.
Jeremy is fast enough, but he lacks that quick burst you like to see in a linebacker because he has long legs. He makes up for it by reading offenses, understanding situational football and effort. Jeremy just knows how to play football.
Most people are going to tell you that Jeremy does not have the athletic talent to be thought of as an elite player in this draft. That may be true, but remember it takes more than talent to play in the NFL. Jeremy might not be drafted until the 2nd round and sometimes linebackers like Jeremy who do not workout well can drop into the 3rd round. If that happens, all I can tell you is get ready to see Jeremy on the field the day after you draft him anyway. He can play inside or outside, but I think his impact position at the next level will be as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense calling the plays and being a coach on the field. Jeremy is the type of Linebacker that the Patriots, Giants, Jets, Ravens and Steelers love to draft, which is why all of those teams always have good defenses. If you want to improve your defense, then be smart and draft Jeremy; don't worry about what round to select him in. If you need defense, then you need Jeremy. The kid is a warrior, a leader and a coach on the field. I call him Jeremy (Junkyard) Beal because like a junkyard dog -- he will wait for you to come to him (patiently) before he attacks you and makes you make the mistake that will make you lose the game.
