Cam has good size to be a defensive end in a 4-3 defense. He does a nice job rushing the passer and shows good solid techniques to get into the backfield, disrupting the quarterback's play. Cam has the size to also play OLB/DE in a 3-4 defense and does show some linebacker skills. He has been a consistent player and seems to have the respect of his teammates and coaches. Cam should be a solid player for the team that drafts him and given time plus a good strength and conditioning program, could be a core player for the team that drafts him.
Sometimes when I watch Cam, I think I'm watching slow motion and then other times he seems to play fine and does a good, solid job. He has to get a lot stronger and learn not to disappear at times during a game. He is inconsistent at the point of attack, although he is very adept at stringing plays out and seems strong enough to do that. However, when a team runs right at him, he loses technique and seems to be not strong enough. He also seems slow to react at times, which is very strange. Doing a search on him, I did not come up with anything that seems to be a red flag, but you never know. I'm sure if there is a serious problem, it would have been exposed in the combine medical exams.
When Cam reacts well, I like what I see, but I just don't see enough of it. Some games he looks like he is sleepwalking through the plays. I think maybe he just needs more than 20 hrs a week of coaching and maybe a better strength and conditioning program. Maybe if that happens, Cam will turn into a pretty good player. I'm confused by what I see and I'm not suggesting that this kid is lazy. Maybe he might not want to go to the next level; regardless, whatever the problem is, I'm sure someone will figure it out before the draft. Cam has potential, someone just needs to understand what will motivate him to use that potential consistently. His teammates and his coaches seem to like Cam which says something to me. I'm not sure what it says, but it says something.
