Bronson Kaufusi   OLB/DE   Brigham Young

Bronson is a solid defensive lineman who has the athletic talent to play more than one position on the defensive line in more than one style of defense. He has the length, quick feet and balance to rush the passer; he is solid against the run also. He should be able to play as a defensive end in a 3-4 defense or as a defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense. Because of his length, Bronson has the talent to give you some sacks and to get into the backfield and become a disruptive force. Bronson shows leadership skills through his play on the field and has the respect of his coaches and teammates because of the work ethic and effort he gives on every play.

Bronson has a lot of little issues that he has to improve on to become a better player for the team that selects him for the next level. His lack of hand usage is a big issue and he is not powerful or quick off the line because of his pad level being too high. He needs better lower and upper body strength and needs to learn counter moves when pass rushing because he lacks the quickness and explosion for sudden moves off the line of scrimmage. Bronson has a good work ethic so improving in all of these areas might take time, but given that time to work on these things, should not be problem.

I see Bronson working hard to improve and become an interior lineman who should give you 3 to 6 sacks a year and become a core player for the team that selects him. However, he has to learn better tricks of the trade and get stronger which may take a year or two. Players like Bronson are key to a better pass rush defense because if you donít have pressure up the middle of the line, itís hard for your defensive ends to make sacks and even harder for your corners to cover. Some will tell you that the key to a pass rush is the defensive ends, and itís true that they are an intricate part of a good pass rushing team; however, without pressure up the middle those defensive ends will run their buttocks off trying to get to the quarterback if that quarterback can move up in the pocket and extend a play. Bronson looks to me to be a solid player for your defensive line and a player who can play in more than one style of defensive front and that makes him a smart draft choice in my book. He should become a core player and a fan favorite for the team that selects him.
