STRENGTHS
DaeSean is one of your more acrobatic pass catching slot receivers in this
draft. He has good hands and it goes without saying, (but I’ll say it
anyway)…that he can adjust to the ball in the air and make the contested catch.
He will fight for the ball and is an excellent zone receiver with the instincts
of running routes and making himself availably when plays break down and
quarterbacks have to move out of the pocket and extend the play. DaeSean is
smart and has the ability to run routes at the correct depth to move the chains.
He is a very good blocker helping his teammate to be one of the better running
backs in this draft and that is a very important and underrated skill that a
slot receiver must have for the next level.
CONCERNS
DaeSean doesn’t look on film to have the talent to play on the outside and is
truly a slot receiver or move receiver for the next level. He is sure handed but
needs to get stronger in his lower body so that he can gain more yards after the
catch.
BOTTOM LINE
DaeSean is a “what you see, is what you get” type of player. He can improve if
he can gain more yards after the catch and use his hands better to free himself
up better on the line of scrimmage but at the next level he will not be much
faster or quicker than most safeties and some linebackers. That means he has to
become slicker and match up his thinking with his quarterbacks and learn to read
defenses even better than he does now. Matched up with the right quarterback and
DaeSean becomes a core player and a fan favorite but his impact will rely more
on his teammates and not the other way around. DaeSean can be an important cog
in an offensive system very much like he has been for his college team.
