Dorian O’Daniel   LB/S   Clemson

TALENT
ROUND
3

STRENGTHS
Dorian is a quick twitch, athletic, defensive player who is a playmaker and a difference maker. He is as quick as a tick with change of direction skills better than most of the cornerbacks in this draft. He has good size for the new Hybrid Linebacker/safety position like he was used in college. He is an excellent tackler in open space and is smart and decisive and quick to come up and support the run. Dorian shows leadership skills and will communicate and be a coach on the field for your defensive backfield. He has the hands to catch the ball and as a special team’s player should be one of your captains and stand out players on your cover units. You need players with this type of talent and leadership skills on your team and in your locker room. Dorian will become a core player for the team that drafts him.

CONCERNS
Dorian could be a standout linebacker in the type of defensive systems that has four big bodies in front of him and allows him to flow freely to the play. He is not the type of linebacker who will be shedding those big offensive linemen, and making tackles. He has to be in open space to impact, running freely to the play. He has talent similar to former safety Troy Polamalu and used like Troy was used, Dorian will impact big time.

BOTTOM LINE
Dorian is bigger than Troy was but not as fast. That being said because of his quickness he might have better cover skills. When I watch Dorian on film I see the same ability to anticipate and commit to what he sees in front of him and to make impact plays all over the field very much like Troy did. Dorian will have to be used as he was in college in a hybrid role and off the line of scrimmage but in this new age of 4/2/5 defenses, Dorian is in the right place, at the right time, to impact. Like I stated before he is as quick as a tick and plays bigger than his size and is an excellent open field tackler and that is the definition of a player that fits the new hybrid position in the NFL. Because Dorian fits a system, some teams who play that system will rate him high and others will just think he is a special teams player and rate him lower so that means, your guess is as good as mine as to what round Dorian is most likely to be selected in but the smart teams will select him early.
