STRENGTHS
Kahlil is a beast of a defensive lineman with the athletic talent to play in
more than one style of defensive front. He has excellent natural strength and
has the balance to be used on stunts. Kahlil has the lateral agility to stretch
plays out and make tackles behind the line of scrimmage because of his strength
to continue to push blockers into the back field disrupting the ability for
running backs to cut back and making them go wider to gain the edge. He is a
straight up, run stuffing, defensive lineman who takes on blocks easily changing
the line of scrimmage to his advantage on almost every play. He gives excellent
effort and has remarkable mental strength and stamina to be more than just a
rotation lineman for the team that selects him. Kahlil is nasty, very
competitive and has the ability to play on the nose in a 3/4 defense because of
his relentless style of play and natural strength to take on double teams and
still change the line of scrimmage to his advantage. If you’re an offensive
lineman who struggles to anchor against a bull rush I pity what you’re going to
go through trying to block this kid one on one all game long. He is a beast.
CONCERNS
I stated before that Kahlil was nasty and being nasty can be a gift and a curse.
The gift is it makes a player play with the aggressiveness needed to compete in
the NFL. The curse, it can lead to penalties if that nasty streak continues to
show itself after the while is blown. Kahlil needs to control his temper. Also
Kahlil will need to learn to shed his blocks quicker to make tackles at the next
level. Things are just a bit faster at the NFL level and if he doesn’t learn to
keep blockers off his body faster and come off the line at a better pad level to
gain leverage than Kahlil will just be another big defensive lineman who takes
up space rather than make plays and have to be game plan for.
BOTTOM LINE
Kahlil has all the talent in the world is to become an impact defensive lineman
for the team that selects him. All he has to do is work harder to improve his
techniques and control his temper. He needs to stop giving players that extra
push at the whistle and after the whistle. He needs to stay with his techniques
longer and not give up on them and get frustrated and learn to finish the play.
If Kahlil can do these little things he will become an impact player for the
team that selects him but paying attention to those details will be the
difference between impact and failure to impact. It’s up to Kahlil… he has the
talent to impact like Vince Wilfork did for the Patriots even though they are a
totally different body types.
